Morning Routines: Beyond the Aesthetic
Ah…morning routines.. they follow us everywhere and everyone seems to have the “perfect formula”. The truth? With so many versions out there, it can feel confusing and even overwhelming to know what actually works.
If you ask me.. and many people for that matter, we would probably agree on one thing: every routine is personal. There’s no one size fits all. Each one is mastered to fit someone’s own life, energy and priorities.
It is so easy to fall into comparison, especially with social media. The slow motion coffee pours, the perfect and spotless kitchen counters with the perfect background are so aesthetically pleasing, and yes I’m guilty of loving them too . But as inspiring as they are, truth is, a morning routine doesn’t need to look perfect to work.
What matters most isn’t what you do, it’s the act of doing it. The small, consistent habits that tell your brain, ” I show up for myself”. It’s about discipline more than aesthetics.
Starting with just one small action in the morning can change a lot of things in how your day and even your week flows. The first time might feel impossible, but everything feels impossible the first time to be honest. Like anything in life, whether its sports, school, work, hobbies, etc. The more you practice, the easier and more natural it becomes.
Imagine this : if you added just one small habit every week and stayed consistent, what could your life look like and feel like in just a year from today?
I say this only because this past year has been one of the most transformative of my life, and I owe it to the power of daily habits, and myself obviously. This combination shapes who you are, it creates structure, and builds a foundation for the person you’re becoming.
As you read this, remember it’s not about adding pressure, but about finding peace in small habits. It’s meant to ease stress, bring balance, and help you grow into the best version of yourself, smoothly, one morning at a time.
Now, I will share a few small habits you can start adding to your mornings, ones that can improve the way your days and your mindset flows. I decided to add the most basic ones because I believe that foundation comes first and building from a foundation makes things so much easier. These habits are also customizable to your own life.
- Move your body (even for 5 minutes) : Go for a walk, or even just stretch in your bed. Or dance while your making your coffee. Up to you.
- Hydrate before you caffeinate : Just do it. Even if you don’t want. It’s for your body, for your nervous system. It takes 2 seconds.
- Make your bed : This is a non-negotiable for me, I love a clean room. If it’s harder for you, put some music on, or make it while your coffee is getting ready or your shower is getting warm, because I swear it takes 2 minutes.
- Step outside (or open a window) : My dog pretty much trained me to do this one. Even when I don’t feel like it, it always ends up being one of the most positive parts of my day, even on rainy or snowy mornings. Dog or not — try it.
- Limit screen time : I know… but take 5 minutes, open the blinds/curtains, drink your water, prepare your coffee/tea/matcha, and you will see, that being present in the morning, really feels amazing.
- Plan your top 3 priorities of the day : I recently started this one because usually, I plan everything in my head. But I noticed that if I don’t write them down, I don’t finish them fully. So try it, and see how satisfying it is to put a check mark next to them at the end of the day.
With sincerity, Camelia
